Mizzou soccer failed to defend home turf against the Saint Louis Billikens on Thursday, dropping the contest 1-0 to move to 1-1-1 on the season.Â
Although the Tigers lost the match, they did set a new program record with 2,234 fans in attendance, many of which may be at least partially credited to the new student ticket system that incentivizes students to attend Mizzou sporting events to increase chances of landing football and men's basketball student tickets. The previous program attendance record was 1,926 fans.
SLU struck early, as its only goal came on a penalty kick that came in the 17th minute of the match.
SLU outshot Mizzou 10-4, with eight of the Billikens' shots going on goal and three of the Tigers' getting on net. Goalkeeper Kate Phillips dazzled in net with seven saves and just the one goal allowed. Forwards Emily Derucki and Brianna Buels both got shots on net but couldn't find the back of the goal.
The Tigers now look for a bounce-back match against another in-state rival in Missouri State at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday at Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium in Springfield.
