(The Center Square) - Elon Musk will not be charged with a crime following a review of complaints against Musk reviewed by La Crosse County District Attorney Tim Gruenke forwarded from the Wisconsin Elections Commission.
The complaints centered around accusations that Musk attempted to bribe voters with a pair of $1 million checks given to two people at a rally before the state’s 2025 Supreme Court election. The checks went to Ekaterina Diestler and Nicholas Jacobs, chairman of the Wisconsin College Republicans.
A post from Musk’s account originally stated that only those who voted in the election would be admitted and the checks would be given “in appreciation for you taking the time to vote.”
A second post later clarified that entrance was limited to those signing “the petition in opposition to activist judges” and that the checks would be to pay two individuals to be “spokesmen for the petition.”
Gruenkei wrote a decision letter concluding that no one was ultimately paid for voting or provision to vote and that he did not believe a jury would convict Musk of that offense.
Gruenke wrote that the “original post was poorly worded and ambiguous” but the “second post corrected the problem relatively quickly.”
"In this case, without the famous name attached and the large dollar amounts involved, it is a simple case of a poorly worded statement that was corrected and brought into compliance with the law," Gruenke wrote in the letter.
