Mizzou soccer’s Landis Canada entered Audrey J. Walton Stadium Thursday evening with two career goals over two seasons. That figure doubled by the time she left. Canada powered a scoring surge for the Tigers as they took down Northern Illinois 4-0.
Mizzou controlled the ball for most of the match, generating 12 corner kicks to NIU’s one, along with a whopping 8-0 second-half advantage.
After 20 minutes of scoreless action, Mizzou’s breakthrough came. A corner kick took a deflection off an Huskies’ defender, landing at the feet of Canada, who buried it in the lower right corner of the goal.
Canada went on to score off another set piece, heading in a Rylie Morse corner in the second half.
“We really have worked on being gritty in the box at practice, so being able to finish three from in the box is amazing,” Canada said. “Every person mattered today, and I think that once one person got one, it was easier to get the second one.”
Freshmen Lana Adams and Petra Bandula opened the floodgates, netting their first collegiate goals in the second half to stretch the lead to four. Adams rocketed home a shot from well outside the box in the 67th minute to cap off her first start, while Bandula headed home a cross from Landry Hopkins in the 75th.
“They have a lot of potential,” Missouri coach Stefanie Golan said about her first year players. “We were able to play a lot of players minutes and see what we have to work with.”
Mizzou once again eclipsed 2,000 fans, winning its first home game since Sept. 12, 2025. The Tigers will look to replicate their success on the road against Creighton at 1 p.m. Sunday in Omaha, Nebraska.
