For the second season in a row, Mizzou baseball was swept by No. 5 Georgia.Â
This edition featured back-to-back run-rule losses to conclude the series for the Tigers. Georgia jumped early for a 14-4 defeat of Mizzou in seven innings for the finale Sunday.Â
Georgia showed the Tigers why the Bulldogs lead the country in home runs, sending four out of the ballpark in the game.Â
Making his first start for Mizzou, righty Keyler Gonzalez labored early and the Bulldogs quickly took advantage. He threw 66 pitches in 2â…“ innings and faced 15 batters.Â
Georgia scratched a two-run homer in the second before opening the floodgates in the third. A double and two homers brought in seven runs in that frame. Once Gonzalez was pulled after giving up the first of pair, the Tigers opted to turn the ball over to Ian Lohse.Â
The Bulldogs tagged him for two quick singles, setting up a three-run shot to conclude Lohse's turn. He got just one out before Mizzou shifted to reliever Eli Skidmore to end the frame.Â
Unrelenting, Georgia went back for four more runs in the fourth and one in the fifth. That pushed the totals to 14 runs from the home team.Â
PJ Green relieved Skidmore for the final out of the fourth and pitched through the fifth inning, allowing one unearned run on a passed ball. He and Kadden Drew, who tossed the sixth, were the only pitchers for Mizzou that did not allow an earned run.Â
Mizzou's Kam Durnin sent out a pair of home runs himself, both being solo shots in the fourth and sixth. It marked his first multi-homer game in the black and gold.Â
An RBI single from Donovan Jordan to score Blaize Ward in the fourth and an RBI double from Jase Woita to score Tyler Macon in the seventh was the only other offensive production in the game for the Tigers.Â
Mizzou was put down in order in four of the seven innings.Â
The Tigers (21-26, 4-20 Southeastern) will return to Taylor Stadium to face Vanderbilt at 6 p.m. Friday in Columbia.Â
