(The Center Square) – An Ohio State University student expelled over social media posts about the Israel-Palestine conflict, has won his case in federal court.
Guy Christensen challenged his suspension from Ohio State and a federal judge earlier this month ruled in his favor. The ruling also awards Christensen attorney fees, according to the American Civil Liberties of Ohio which filed the challenges on Christenson’s behalf.
“This result marks a major victory for academic freedom in this era of heightened pressure, surveillance, and censorship of public colleges and universities,” the ACLU of Ohio said in a statement.
Christenson's motion to have the suspension stricken from his Ohio State record was unopposed.
Earlier this year, a judge issued a preliminary injunction that required Ohio State to strike any mention of the suspension from his Ohio State records. Earlier this month, the judge made the temporary injunction permanent.
“Because there are “no triable issues of fact remaining to be resolved, the Court may properly convert a preliminary injunction to a permanent injunction without an evidentiary hearing,” the judge ruled.
In September 2025, Christensen filed a federal lawsuit against Ohio State, claiming he has millions of social media followers and was suspended without a hearing.
In those posts, Christensen criticized U.S. Rep. Ritchie Torres, D-NY, for what Christensen called Torres’ support for Zionism and associations with pro-Israel political groups.
The Trump administration threatened to investigate Christensen, and Torres publicly accused Christensen of antisemitism and asked the U.S. Capitol Police to investigate.
