Missouri running back Ahmad Hardy will make his season debut Saturday against Arkansas, according to reports from Pete Thamel of ESPN and Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports. Hardy won't be the starter for the Tigers, but will get a handful of carries, Thamel reported.Â
Hardy practiced for the first time this season on Monday. He had been recovering from a gunshot wound he sustained to his upper left leg while attending a concert in May in Mississippi. Mizzou coach Eli Drinkwitz had left Hardy's timeline and status up in the air in a press conference Tuesday, saying the running back might play against Arkansas but also might not return at all this season.
After practicing on both Monday and Tuesday, Hardy was not included on Missouri's availability report Wednesday. Drinkwitz said Tuesday the medical team would be patient in monitoring how Hardy's body responded to practice, given the unique nature of his injury.
Hardy was a consensus All-American in 2025, rushing for 1,649 yards and 16 touchdowns during his sophomore season. His rushing-yards total set Missouri's program record for a single season. His touchdowns tied him for the third-most in a single season in program history.
With Hardy expected to get limited carries, senior Jamal Roberts will continue to be Missouri's starter against Arkansas. Roberts is second in the Southeastern Conference with 867 rushing yards on 167 carries.
Missouri will take on Arkansas at 6:45 p.m. Saturday in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The game will broadcast on the SEC Network.
