If Austin Simmons returns to college football next season, it will be with the Missouri Tigers.Â
Simmons re-signed a deal to return to Mizzou for the 2027 season, ESPN's Pete Thamel announced Friday. Per On3's Pete Nakos, Simmons still has the option to declare for and enter the 2027 NFL Draft.Â
Simmons is in the middle of his first season with the Tigers after transferring from Ole Miss. He's thrown for 1,952 yards, 15 touchdowns and two interceptions. He's recently been regarded as a potential first-round NFL Draft pick and was the 12th-ranked player on Mel Kiper's most recent prospect rankings list.Â
He ranks fourth in the Southeastern Conference in passing yards, is tied for fourth in touchdowns and has a 63.3% completion percentage. Among consistent starters in the conference, he's thrown the second-lowest number of interceptions.Â
Simmons joined the Tigers after three seasons with Ole Miss. He accumulated 1,026 passing yards and six touchdowns with the Rebels before entering the transfer portal. Simmons started the first two games of the 2025 season before getting injured and, ultimately, beig benched for Trinidad Chambliss.Â
A return for Simmons in 2027 can lay an early groundwork for Eli Drinkwitz and the Tigers to center their roster construction around the QB. An early re-signing like this should simplify parts of that process.Â
Simmons and the 18th-ranked Tigers take the field Saturday to face No. 7 Texas at 11 a.m. in Columbia.Â
